Because It Matters in Our Neighborhoods

Thank you for taking interest in the Because It Matters civility initiative. The campaign, supported and directed by community members throughout the region, intends to create a buzz around town about civility and what civility means to the life of our community.  The idea is for all of us together to think about, discuss and recognize the importance of being neighborly, polite, courteous, understanding, generous, and maybe even forgiving.  We believe that this civility conversation will lead to a renewed sense of community in the region and a higher quality of life for the residents here.

Because It Matters will be realized through media, workplace, school, neighborhood, and civic organization campaigns.  As a member of your neighborhood community, we ask that you consider being a part of this endeavor.  The Because It Matters Neighborhood/Civic Organization Advisory Committee is here to make your participation as effortless as possible and have provided the means by which you may introduce the idea of neighborhood-wide civility to your community.  We suggest that you reach out to your residents through an already existing method of communication such as your neighborhood newsletter or website.  In order to assist you we have a number of outreach materials available.  You will find three sample Because It Matters introduction newsletter articles:  Because What Matters?; Civility Can Make You Rich; and Bring Civility Back!.  We also include a template for a follow-up newsletter article.  You may use one of the samples or may, of course, write your own.

You will note that the sample articles ask for contributions of ideas from your community members.  The goal of the Because It Matters initiative is to create a more civil community through the active participation of our residents.  Because of your interest in this initiative, you are in an ideal position to encourage your neighbors to be a part of this process.  Our hope is that your community will benefit from both the wider media campaign and also the more local neighborhood discussion.
